How to Pick a Personalised Wedding Gift That Doesn't End Up in a Drawer

By Ricky Bendall·Founder, Picture the Stars Studio·13 May 2026·5 min read

Most wedding presents disappear within a year. The toaster ends up in a cupboard. Fancy glasses sit on a top shelf because they're too nice to use. Money goes in the joint account and stops being a present the moment it adds to the balance. Then there's the gift that has real deep meaning a true statement piece and conversation starter. Ahh what is that? Where did you get that!

Quick answer

A personalised wedding gift should be meaningful, thoughtful, and tied to how special this day is for them. The best personalised gifts go further. They capture a real moment from the wedding and turn it into something the couple will actually want to keep and remember.

So what exactly should i get them?

A wedding-night star map is our top pick we have captured more than 50,000 happy moments such as wedding days, the night they met or the moment they first kissed, All magical moments worth remembering all captured and on the wall framed to remember forever.

Basically a star map is a map of the stars on a specific date and time, captured using real astronomical data, no star map is the same. The perfect one of a kind wedding day gift.

Why the wedding-night sky works as the gift

The sky overhead at the wedding is the one thing nobody at the wedding will get a photo of…. Not even the fancy wedding photographer! Everyone photographs the ceremony, the speeches, the first dance. Nobody looks up. This moment in time is captured in the stars.

Whether it's a star map, moon map or location map, every print captures a real moment from real coordinates. Learn more about how we capture the night sky on special moments using our advanced astronomical database and calculations.

How fast can you actually get it?

This is the question people ask us most often, usually written in the panicked tone of someone whose wedding is Saturday.

Order before 3pm and the print is dispatched the same day from our Manchester studio. Sometimes within 30 minutes if the queue is short. Order before 3pm and most UK customers get the print the next working day on the tracked service. Delivery is free across the UK.

So if the wedding is Saturday and you order Thursday lunchtime, you're fine. If you order Friday morning, you're cutting it close but it's usually still fine, we do offer a next day option at an additional cost.

Speed bottom line

Same-day dispatch before 3pm. Next-working-day delivery for UK orders before 3pm. Free, tracked, made-to-order in Manchester. We've shipped 50,000+ of these since 2018.

Which size makes sense as a gift?

40x50cm is the size we like to recommend as most people give as a gift, and the size most couples keep on the wall. The constellations are readable across a room, it looks intentional rather than decorative.

30x40cm works if their wall space is limited or you're not sure of their decor. It's a more modest gift and still feels like a proper one. Below that, A4 (21x30cm) reads as desk art, not wall art. Perfect as a little keepsake.

On framing: Black and Natural Oak are the safest defaults if you don't know the couple's existing prints. Both work against almost any wall colour. We also offer 3M command strips at checkout, honestly these are great just stick and click, no holes or drilling into existing walls.

What size should I get if it's a gift?

40x50cm is the size we recommend most as a gift. The constellations are readable across a room, it fits most British walls, and standard ready-made frames from Habitat, John Lewis or Ikea will take it without custom framing. 30x40cm works too if their wall space is limited.

What if I don't know the exact time of the ceremony?

Most customers leave the time on the default 00:00. The sky pattern for a wedding date is recognisably "that night" without needing to be hour-perfect. If you do know the time, you can override it in the product builder before checkout.

If you want to see it before buying

The builder shows a live preview of the sky as you enter the date, time and location. You can change the theme and the toggles and watch it update. It takes about a minute to see what their wedding-night sky actually looks like.
